Calculation
of your Final Grade
Your
final
average will be determined using the
following percent:
Computer
labs/Homework 20%
4 Exams 55 (Averaging best three Exams)
Final
Exam: 25% (Departmental Exam)
NOTE:
Students cannot receive a grade of C or better as their final grade if
they do not score 50% or greater on the final exam.
An
explanation of each grade follows:
Regular
Exams
You
will have four exams during the semester and three of the exams will be
averaged and graded. The Exams dates are
indicated in the calendar schedule:
Final
Exam
At
the end of the semester you will have a comprehensive departmental final exam. A week before the exam the student should
download the review sheet with answers from nhmath.lonestar.edu. Hard work during the semester is the best
preparation possible for this exam! PLEASE
NOTE THAT STUDENTS MUST MAKE A MINIMUM OF 50% ON THE FINAL EXAM TO PASS THIS
CLASS WITH A C GRADE OR BETTER.
Computer
Labs
All Math 0306 classes at North Harris College have a
computer lab component. You are required
to complete a certain number of computer labs during the semester. These labs can be completed on most computers
on campus as well as on a home computer without internet access. I will give you full instruction on how these
labs can be completed.
Missing
an Exam or Quiz
In
general, there are no make-ups!!
However, if you have a good reason to miss an exam or quiz you must
e-mail me as soon as possible and provide appropriate documentation the
following class day by either e-mail or hand delivered. Examples of good reasons are job interviews,
doctor’s appointment, jury duty, etc… Please note the instructor reserves the
right to deny make up if the reason is trivial or if the student does not have
documentation. The student will receive
two additional days for make-ups from the day the student returns with the
document. If not, the final exam grade
will replace one low exam grade if it is higher or if the student missed the
exam.
Withdrawing
From Class
After
3 absences that are not excused, the
instructor reserves the right to drop the student from the class. Please notify me by e-mail if you miss
class.
Academic
Honesty
Unless
you are notified beforehand, collaboration with others on any graded work is
prohibited. Violations of this policy
will result in a 0 for that work.
The
Grades of IP, I, and F
The
grade of IP is assign to a student who does not finish the semester with an
overall average of 70 or higher, but had good attendance and class
participation. The grade of IP is
assigned to a student who does not finish the semester with an overall average
of 70 or higher due to unavoidable circumstances such as a house burning down,
a death in the family, health related issues etc.... Students with an average of less than 70 who
do not maintain good attendance and class participation will receive a grade of
F. Class participation is defined as
taking all exams and being present.
Conduct
Students
are expected to conduct themselves in the classroom in a manner that is
conducive to the learning environment.
Cursing, talking on cell phones, or being disrespectful towards another
student or the teacher etc… is unacceptable behavior. The instructor reserves the right to ask the
student to leave class if the behavior continues. No
LAPTOP computers or any electronic devices
are allowed in the classroom and ALL
CELL PHONES MUST BE OFF.
Math
Achievement Center (MAC): The MAC
is staffed by professional math tutors that have been trained to help with all
levels of math—from Pre-Algebra through Calculus. The MAC is located in Winship 110. Not only does the
MAC offer individualized tutoring-- it also
has computers where students can work on assignments that are computer
based. The MAC also has small rooms for study groups. Operating hours are 8:30-7:30 Mon.-Thurs., 8:30-4:00
Friday, noon-4:00 Saturday, 1-4:30 Sundays (located in ACAD 200 on Sundays).
